Peer Review Programme

Since 2015, the National Trauma and Orthopaedics team has supported delivery of clinically-led peer reviews for Boards across Scotland, with the cycle repeating every 3 years.

These peer reviews were initiated from the innovative Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme.

They have been highly successful at leading change, reducing variation, improving clinical pathways as well as significantly reducing costs predominantly through reduction in length of stay and improved procurement.

The peer meetings are led by clinicians (internal and external) and managers and also allow networking plus sharing of good practice. Formal reports are written with recommendations and Boards are followed up to ensure ongoing actions and improvements are delivered.
