Hip fracture is the most common serious orthopaedic injury to affect the elderly.

The burden of hip fracture in Scotland is predicted to increase by 30% within the next 5 years as a consequence of population demographic changes.

It is therefore essential that we manage this injury as effective and efficiently as possible  for both the benefit of patients but also for the optimum use of NHS resources.

Scottish Hip Fracture Audit

The SHFA is the second-oldest hip fracture audit in the world with data submitted by every hospital.

This cost effective audit has driven research, clinical improvements and the development of the 12 Standards of Care all which is overseen by the national multiisciplinary Steering Group.

The Scottish Hip Fracture AuditSteering Group provides world leading research, expert opinion and advice plus develops and implements quality improvement initiatives such as SipTilSend.

The SHFA has virtual meetings to enable national attendance 4 times a year (March/June/September and December).
