The National Diabetes Closed Loop System Onboarding Programme has been set up to provide support for Boards to get access to this diabetes technology for suitable individuals living with type 1 diabetes.

The process for moving people with type 1 diabetes to a closed loop system is called onboarding.

The programme will be delivered using video calls using NHS Near Me or Microsoft Teams and will consist of online group sessions and 1-to-1 calls. Therefore, people who participate in the programme must have basic computer skills and access to devices such as laptop/PC/camera.

In a Closed Loop System, an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor use technology to ‘talk’ to each other and adjust insulin dosing to help control blood glucose levels.
