Improve Public Education and Empowerment

On this page

The CfSD’s Cancer Improvement and Earlier Diagnosis (CI&ED) Team works closely with the Scottish Government’s Health Marketing Team to develop evidence-based Detect Cancer Earlier (DCE) behaviour change campaigns. These campaigns are designed to reach people aged 40 and over, particularly those living in areas of deprivation.

Each campaign is shaped by available evidence - including cancer incidence and deprivation data - and includes tailored media and outreach activities such as advertising, digital content, PR and local roadshow.

Cancer campaigns are essential in raising awareness of the benefits of finding cancer early, when treatment is more likely to be successful. As well as educating the public about cancer symptoms and encouraging timely screenings, DCE campaigns empower individuals to take proactive steps towards improving their health.

Detect Cancer Earlier’s website supports all communication efforts and includes personal stories and a symptom checker tool to help educate the public on possible symptoms and encourage those with unusual, persistent symptoms to act.
