Innovation Collaborative Nominated for Digital Health and Social Care Award

The Accelerated National Innovation Adoption (ANIA) collaborative has been shortlisted for the ‘Digital Health and Care Team Award’ at tomorrow night’s Holyrood Connect’s Digital Health and Care Awards.

The multidisciplinary team have been shortlisted for the collaborative work behind the new national Digital Dermatology pathway, which helps reduce waiting times and enables faster diagnosis and assessment of skin conditions using a secure mobile app.

Images are stored on the National Digital Platform for Health and Social Care and attached to GP referrals via SCI Gateway, with no data saved on the device. Dermatologists can then triage remotely, minimising in-person visits.

The national digital dermatology pathway is backed by £1.8 million of funding from the Scottish Government and, supported by the Chief Scientist Office. It is one of the first innovations approved for national implementation under the ANIA pathway – a collaborative venture that is coordinated by the national Centre for Sustainable Delivery at NHS Golden Jubilee and involves NHS National Services Scotland, Healthcare Improvement Scotland, Public Health Scotland, Digital Health & Care Directorate and NHS Education for Scotland. Following initial roll out in the launch Boards, the aim is for the technology to be deployed nationally by Spring 2025.

Gavin Holt, Head of Service (ANIA Technology Delivery), NES Technology Service, said: "It’s fantastic that the ANIA Digital Dermatology programme has been recognised and shortlisted for a Digital Health and Care Team Award.

“While NES Technology Service (NTS) leads the digital delivery of ANIA programmes, its success is driven by the dedication of a multidisciplinary team.

“Colleagues from NTS, NES Innovation and Workforce Diversification workstream, NSS, CfSD, Digital Health and Care (DHaC), Consultant Connect (CC), and the territorial Health Boards have worked together to launch this new national digital service."

Jason White, Head of Innovation for CFSD, said: “"We are thrilled that the Digital Dermatology Pathway has been shortlisted for the Digital Health and Care Team Award at Holyrood Connect's Digital Health and Care Awards.

“This project has only been possible thanks to the incredible teamwork and collaboration across teams and organisations, and captures our commitment to leveraging evidence based innovative technology to improve patient care across Scotland."

Fiona Fraser, Associate Director, NHS Scotland Academy Learning and Innovation Directorate at NES said:

“Our collaboration with ANIA partners ensured a strategic and progressive approach to enabling workforce in readiness for the adoption and implementation of the digital dermatology application to benefit Scotland’s population.

“This is a super example of collaboration between organisations enhancing accelerated activity, preparing workforce for efficient implementation.”
